Wine in the Woods
This week New Forest Escapes enjoyed a private tasting at Marlings Vineyard.
We were taken around the vines and winery in blazing sunshine by two of the charming lead team, Paul Cartmell and Piotr Nahajski.
The entire afternoon was spent in the best way possible as we toured, tasted and took it all in. It became very clear that this proudly New Forest vineyard has lots to shout about.
Hidden away in an idlic valley in Sway, Marlings produce a high quality English sparkling white, alongside aromatic white wines from Bacchus grapes, and elegant red wines made from a blend of Pinot Noir and Dornfelder grapes. All of which were delightfully different and decidedly drinkable.
Their knowledge, passion and excitement for the future is easily felt. The team have recently planted Chardonnay and Pinot Noir vines (given England’s new, slightly warmer, climate) and are refreshingly picky about what they bottle, choosing quality over quantity.
Marlings is well worth a try if you're looking for a local taste during your stay. Pick up a bottle at New Forest Wines in Ringwood and Priory Wines in Lymington.
